Sharing With The Bitly Sidebar

bitly-sidebarHow To Get The Old Bitly Sidebar Back

I’ve been using Bitly for years and years. It’s been a great tool for shortening links on our many blogs and sharing updates, news, game contests and more. I LOVE the time it has saved me and the ease of use of the sidebar add-on.

No matter what browser you used, it was easy to install and easy to use. Until…..

In December 2013 Bitly changed their Bitly Sidebar with a new and “not improved” Bitmark. Long time users really didn’t like it and many people updated their browsers without realizing they couldn’t get the old Sidebar back.

If you liked the Old Bitly sidebar, you had the option to get it back by creating your own booklet or bookmarklet.

Update: 06/2014
Sadly Bitly has disabled the script that allowed this to continue, which now forces everyone to use their sucky pop-up. I hate that thing.

But here’s how you created the old sidebar bookmarklet.

  • Right click on your bookmark bar.
  • Create a new Bookmark.
  • In the Name field, select a name that you like. I called mine “Bitly”.
  • In the Location field, paste this code:
    javascript:var%20e=document.createElement(‘script’);e.setAttribute(‘language’,’javascript’);e.setAttribute(‘src’,’//bitly.com/bookmarklet/load.js’);document.body.appendChild(e);void(0);
  • Save the bookmark and you’re good to go.

Some other bloggers have this code with a little extra in it that adds some annoying advertisements to your bitly sidebar. This is nothing but the original bitly side bar feature. I promise.  😉

Now on my browser, you can do all things you used to do except actually share the tweet. I’m guessing Bitly has disabled the script on their end. But I’d rather have the old bitly and then copy and paste the tweet into Tweet Deck and share it through the accounts I want to use.

I also suggest going to Bitly.com and sending the Support staff a note and let them know your displeasure with taking away a perfectly great feature. At the very least, they should offer both versions! Even if they don’t provide support to the old version.

NFL Week 16

PanthersEvil’s Analysis and Picks

I guess my run of good luck is over. Only 7 picks right last week. And I failed to nail even one game of those.

So, let’s talk about the true failures category. Neither Arizona or Tennessee brought a D squad. Well maybe Arizona brought one guy. I nailed Seattle’s score in that game. Unfortunately for me, the Giants weren’t there to see it. And I’ve said it before, never bet on a B team, you can never tell when they will show up. Buffalo showed up. I think they had 44 men on the field.

This week New England is back out of the Superbowl. Seattle with a 15-1 record will win over Denver.

Spring’s Week 15 Results & Week 16 Picks

TitansWeek 15 Results

First off I’d like to say everyone in my family wishes everyone in your family a wonderful Yuletide and Merry Christmas!

It’s Sunday and there’s only two weeks left of the NFL’s regular season. The next two weeks will be filled with commentary, confusing and convoluted scenarios for what a team has to do in order to make the playoffs.   That team will have to win, that team will have to lose and your team will need other teams to do both of those to make a wild card birth. I’m terribly glad I’m not the one who has to know all that. I’m fairly sure I would fail at it miserably.

But I didn’t fail at last weeks results! Woohoo. I had 11 of the 16 games correct. I’m still trying to figure out how Denver lost, IN Denver to the Chargers no less. Did the Broncos forget where the stadium was? In my head Chicago and Cleveland was a toss up game, so I’m not surprised I lost that pick. But when the Saints lost to the Rams I thought my weekend was going to be long and depressing. Then New England lost in Miami!? What?! Continue reading

NFL Week 15

footballEvil’s Picks and Analysis

Week 14 was even better to me than week 13, I got 12 picks.

I nailed the New England game. Not that it was hard to pick Brady to win, but picking Cleveland to cover the spread was dicey. The covered it 9 points better than I planned, which didn’t hurt an over bet at all.

I also nailed the Jets game, only both teams scored even more than I figured. Good thing I took the over bet there.

In the true failures category, I favored Houston by 7 and Jacksonville showed up with a football team to win by 7. In Washington, KC showed up with two teams which evened out the game since DC forgot to bring a team. In Pittsburgh, Miami brought some tin snips for Pittsburgh’s tin foil curtain. In Denver, Tennessee’s defense only made it half a mile high, someone should send out a rescue squad and see if they can find them. And one day I’m going to study the Giants and see if I can figure out why suddenly this year they can’t play. I have a bad feeling they met Alice from Wonderland and drank the shrinking potion. Spring’s Week 14 Results & Week 15 Picks

EaglesWeek 14

It wasn’t a bad week! I won 10 games and that’s a 62% win ratio for the week. Which puts me at 59% for the season. I can live with that. Yeah me.

There were some surprises though. Indianapolis and Pittsburgh losing were, well unexpected. Thank goodness New England decided to wake up and realize they were playing football. What the heck was that? I can understand them being down and coming back against Denver. But it should never have been a struggle against Cleveland. But anyone who counted them down and out with come back kid Brady was simply deluding themselves. Continue reading

NFL Week 14

PanthersEvil’s Analysis and Picks

Week 13 was good to me, 11 picks.

Nailed the Philly game, the San Fran game and the Seattle game. That is to say, I won both bets and called the pick in Seattle. The rest of that beat down of Orleans was just gravy on the cake.

On the true failures side, I think the Jets didn’t make it out of Miami airport. Maybe they got snowed in.

There are no good bets this week, and considering all the snow I see, that’s a good thing.

Spring’s Week 13 Results & Week 14 Picks

TitansWeek 13 Results

Can you believe we’re into December already? Seems like it was only 1 month ago that the season started. Now we’re only 5 games away from Post-Season!

And on that note, the Skins lost…again…and they’re out of any playoff chance. The Prince is still cheering on his Eagles. We’ll see. But my Titans aren’t doing to badly.

According to SBNation’s NFL playoff picture 2013, No. 6 Tennessee Titans 5-6 (Wild Card, conference record and divisional tie-breakers) in the AFC. I still have hope! Continue reading

Evils Picks & Analysis

I hate week 12. I don’t want to talk about it. Except for the six games I picked. Oh and the Atlanta game where I won the good bet. I’m now only down 10% on good bets.

On the other hand, I failed to nail down a single game, not even the Atlanta game.

On the true failures side, surprisingly there were only two. It would appear that Da Bears’ D is already sitting at the table for turkey, they sure weren’t in St. Louis. And I don’t know what happened to the Giants this year, and clearly neither does my computer.

Week 13 Picks

redskins2We hope everyone has a very happy, safe and drama free Thanksgiving Day! It’s a time to remember what’s really important in life and to have those people around you at this special time of the year.

It’s time for football too, so let’s get to it.

Last week I actually used stats to help me make my picks. I’m not going to do that again. Going back to gut feel. The game I’m looking forward to is New Orleans at Seattle, but that’s not until Monday night. For Turkey Day, I don’t see anything to be excited about today. But who knows maybe someone will be annoyed they have to work on Thanksgiving Day and play with a bit more heart. Of all the Thursday games, Pittsburgh at Baltimore might be the only one worth watching. Continue reading
