New Android App Review – Digital Frame

Photo Slides (Photo Frame)Set Up A Digital Picture Slideshow

I’m a Mom and like all Moms I love looking at and displaying the pictures of my family. Today you can spend hundreds of dollars on digital picture frames and set them around your house. You can set up screen savers on your PC and show off your pictures when you’re not working. Or if you’re on Windows 7 or greater, you can set up a desk top widget and display your albums proudly.

Now when I’m working on my PC, I have multiple windows open and I’m constantly doing something. It’s not often during the day that the screen saver has time to kick in. So having a digital picture frame would be awesome on my desk. I received a digital frame for Christmas one year and it worked for about 10 months before it crashed and we could never get it working again. Thankfully the husband didn’t spend that much on it, but it was enough to steer us away from other frames and especially more expensive ones.

When I picked up my new Galaxy Nexus one of the first things I did was move a few current family pictures to it. Mostly because I was going to meet family for lunch and I knew they’d want to see the latest photos of the Prince. On the way home I wondered if there was a digital frame app? It wasn’t until today that I had to really sit down and look for one. Continue reading

NFL Conference Weekend

Spring and The Prince Check The Scoreboard & Make Their Picks

Well the child had a pretty good weekend. He picked all the games except one and that one was still pretty close. He counted on Seattle to pull it out, but in the end Atlanta pulled off a miracle. It was truly a surprising game and one well worth watching.

Can’t say that for Houston and New England. I can’t stand the Patriots and that emotion was not only confirmed but strengthened tonight. When quarterback Matt Schaub’s pass to DeVier Posey is called incomplete and then reversed as a Touchdown, Belichick’s reaction was overboard irritated. The Patriots were already at least 20 points ahead, even without this TD. It’s one thing to win, but another to feel the need to stomp your foot into the face of your challenger.

In the end, I won 2 and lost 2. But the Prince ended the weekend at 75%. Continue reading

What Is That Cartouche?

Our Copyright Seals

At the bottom of our posts you may notice a seal with Japanese characters. Some folks have asked what that is. Well it’s not a cartouche, it’s called a Japanese Hanko and it’s our copyright seal for the articles here on Evil Wordsmith.

These seals are still used in Japan for professional and personal purposes. Most requiring registration with local government offices, much like a trademark is registered in the U.S. today.  Like a signature to a Westerner, they are indispensable tools for Japanese adults in authorizing a myriad of transactions, from automobile registration, to bank activities to setting up house utilities. Nearly any occasion that would call for a Westerner’s signature would call for an impression of a hanko in Japan.

You can learn more about Our Copyright Seal and we can even give you some links to places where you can get your own.

2012/13 NFL Wildcard to Divisional Playoffs

Spring and The Prince Cover Their Bets

Well last week was disappointing. Not because we both finished the weekend with 2 wins and 2 losses; but because our Redskins were one of those losses. Still the Prince and I finished the weekend at 50% and well, that’s better than losing 3 out of 4 games. Or not getting any of them right.

As for our Redskins; RGIII is a great player, but he’s not superman. The coaches should have taken him out of the game from the very moment he started limping. Fans in the stands (you may not have realized it watching on TV) but they were yelling for him to be pulled. With a proven backup like Kirk Cousins, the game really could have turned out differently. But alas, our arm-chair coaching means nothing and the Skins are sitting at home and RGIII faces surgery in his off-season.

Here’s our picks and results from the Wild Card Weekend. I must say I’m very glad Baltimore won. I’m also glad Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is doing better. Continue reading

2012 Fiscal Cliff Bill And Nascar – The Real Story & The Mis-information

Nothing like a sunset over RIR!

How Assumptions Can Create Mis-Information

Last month Washington DC was in its usual fight over money, budgets and bills when it finally agreed on several little deals to create what’s being called on the street as the Fiscal Cliff Bill. Along with being a sports fan, an author and teacher, I’m also a political junkie.  And one thing that irritates me more than the stupidity in Washington, is the B.S. and spin that the average American buys into at the hands of sloppy reporting and sensationalize journalism.

When that mis-information touches on something I care about, I tend to speak up. Such is the case of a recent story published in the Washington Post this week. An opinion piece, which I guess means the opinionated author doesn’t need to check their facts before publication. The article entitled “From NASCAR to rum, the 10 weirdest parts of the ‘fiscal cliff’ bill” was posted by Brad Plumer on January 2, 2013.

In this article Mr. Plumer makes the following statement: Continue reading

NFL Week 17 & Wild Card Weekend!

Spring & The Prince Get Ready For The Play Offs!

Last weekend couldn’t have gone much better for me! Well, yeah it could have. I would have liked to see the Saints win, but it appears Evils Panthers figured out how to play football. How’d that happen? Nothing was as wonderful as my Redskins taking down Dallas on Sunday night! Yeah baby! It’s the best rivalry in all of football if you ask me. I’d say second to that is Minnesota and Green Bay. But it’s a distant second.

All in all, it was still a great weekend with 12 winner picks vs 4 losses. That’s a 75% win rating for the week! I can live with that. And with 144 wins on the regular season, with the 1 tie included for 145; my win rating for the season so far is 65%. In full disclosure the Prince and I didn’t make picks for the first 2 weeks (that’s an additional 32 games we’re not counting here). Continue reading

2012 NFL Week 17 Picks

Spring and The Prince Make Their Picks

How time flies! It’s already the last week of the regular season and my Redskins appear to be going to the playoffs. Wow! Woohoo and all that.

In between the cooking, family dinner, opening presents and Santa coming to visit I made my picks. It has taken the Prince a bit longer to decide who he wants to win in the final weekend. As usual he has made some interesting picks.

Our toss-up game is Houston at Indianapolis. I’m giving the edge to the Colts because they’re playing at home. So I hope they use that to their benefit and win. The Prince is going with the stats and thinks the Texans will pull off the win. Continue reading

2012 NFL Week 16 Results

Spring and the Prince Review The Holiday Weekend

Week 16 falls right before the Christmas Holiday. And it turns out to be a good thing for me! I won 13 out of the 16 games. That’s an 81.2% average for the week. Woohoo. The man-child did better than his average this week as well. He’s typically a good 50% on his picks. But this week he won 9 of the 16 and brings him to a 56.0%. Hey..that 6% is a big deal when you’re 9 years old.

It was also a great weekend if you’re a Redskins fan (like me)! They are the only team in their division that won on Sunday. Sadly they had to beat the Prince’s team, the Eagles, to make that happen. But they did it. And no so sadly New Orleans beat Dallas Yeah!! And Baltimore took care of the Giants. I am surprised that Houston didn’t show up in Minnesota and the Vikings seemingly decimated them. That was a bad game all around. But how did the Jets fall to the Chargers? I don’t get that one. Continue reading
