NFL Week 8

greenbayEvil’s Picks, Bets & Analysis

One word: Meh. 50%. Made 67% of the good bets, thanks to the fact that neither of the horse teams have a defense. It either the Colts or Broncos had a defense that game would have been a blow out.

I nailed three games in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Green Bay.

In the true failures category, Cincinnati scored one more TD than I planned and both DC and Chicago both left their defenses in a bar somewhere.

There is one good bet and that is that DC brings their defense to the game in Denver. That game will go under. Continue reading

redskinsWeek 7 Results

Not a bad week. Not a great week. There were some unexpected losses. But I finished Week 7 with a 60% win ratio. Come on, that’s at least ahead of the game. So to speak.

I’m wondering, as many might be, what’s happened to New England? Has Brady reached the downside of the mountain? Is he done? I don’t think so, but something is happening up there in the cold. It’s definitely odd that New England would lose again, and to the Jets no less.

I was really counting on the Prince’s Eagles to whallop Dallas. A division game that keeps Dallas in the hunt for a playoff spot. Yuck. That gives me the heebee-geebees just thinking it. Continue reading

NFL Week 7

footballEvil’s Picks, Bets & Analysis

Well, last week got better for me. First let me point out that ALL of my good bets were right. That’s right, the computer correctly predicted (never mind all those other times…) that Jacksonville would wake up and discover that, even though they really suck, that they actually are an NFL football team. True, they got hammered. But they didn’t get hammered like Vegas said they would. So if you’re gambling with me… well, you’re still down. But only 150% now!

I might be wrong about Detroit this year. Thanks to the slimmest of margins, the computer says they make the playoffs now. Bad part of that is I had to do another strength-of-victory calculation. I need to upgrade my spreadsheets cause that is a pain right now. Continue reading

Week 6 Results

I’m not happy about how the week turned out for my picks. I know the Lions are not better than Cleveland, so how did they win…IN Cleveland no less?! Carolina has been struggling off and on. They have no consistency, especially on the road. So how did they beat the Vikings by 25 points IN Minnesota?

I don’t even want to talk about my Skins. But I knew deep down they weren’t going to win in Dallas. That was definitely a pick of loyalty and it’s hard enough to pick Dallas in games that aren’t against Washington. No way can I pick them against my home team! So I expected that one.

But now explain Indianapolis and San Diego. You can’t. So never mind.

Let’s simply get last week over with and move on. I finished the with a 60% win ratio, so I can’t be too upset about the overall week. And it was better than Week 4, so I’ll focus on the bottom line and everything will be ok.

Here’s how I ended Week 6: Continue reading

NFL Week 6

footballEvil’s Football Picks & Bets

First rule of loser club: Don’t talk about loser club. So let’s break that rule by pointing out that I got 6 games last week. And over all gambling: down 480%. Even on bets I would have taken, where I essentially broke even, I’m down 20%. I haven’t finished running this weeks sims as I write this. I can’t wait to see if the computer still has faith in Jacksonville recalling that they are, in fact, still a NFL team.

And even if the computer predicts a 15-1 season for New England, I can guarantee you that it won’t happen. Here’s why: NO team who got beat by Cincinnati EVER managed to beat all the other teams they faced. I said that New England would roll over them like a Zamboni on ice. Well they did and proceeded to skid out of control, crash through the catch fence, hit Juan Pablo Montoya, burst into flame and when they came to a stop, Tony Stewart threw a helmet at them.

I did correctly predict that Dallas would cover the spread. They didn’t do it by beating them but I’m okay with that, I’m not a Dallas fan. I called an under bet on that game which failed because it is clear that neither team brought a defensive squad. Continue reading

Season Week 5 Results

Well I started out the day winning all the morning games. Then halftime happened. And it was down hill from there. Some one please explain to me how New England lost to Cincinnati? Did the Patriots forget to get on the plane?

Seattle at Indianapolis was my fun game to watch. I rather enjoyed that one. I thought I was heading for a great pick week, but alas I finished my pics with a 50% win ratio. At least I broke even! Continue reading

NFL Week 5

footballEvil’s Week 5 Bets and Picks

I’ve noticed a pattern. Week 4 is always bad for my picks. My analysis doesn’t directly take injuries into account and I think they max out about week 4. One of these days when I have some of that magical and mystical stuff we call free time, I’m going to write some software to do a deeper analysis. Lack of free time is why I don’t watch college football. I already spend maximum time on the 32 teams of the NFL. If I started watching all six hunnit and fiddy teams in college I would need to be retired.

Another bet I would have put real money on went down the tubes last week. My boy’s team, Philly, were completely unable to stop Denver as they ran, passed, rolled unabated to the end zone. So much for the under bet there. Denver almost took it over all by themselves. Continue reading

Spring’s Week 4 Resutls & Week 5 Picks

redskins2Season Week 4 Results

Not a bad week for me. 9 out of 15 games, that’s 60% for the week. Not bad. I must admit I made some long reaching picks. I gave the edge to St. Louis because they were at home and they failed miserably. Cleveland really stepped it up on Sunday to win the honor of Ohio over Cincinnati. I’m still surprised about that one.

Houston losing to Seattle at home was another one that surprised me. At home, the Texans should have ruled that game. That or Seattle is a lot better than they’re being given credit for. Which really might be the case.

And I must admit I don’t mind losing the pick in Oakland. I was have a really bad feeling about my Skins this year, but they finally decided it was time to play some football! Yes!!

So here’s how my week 4 went: Continue reading
