From time to time amongst the cargo trains, we see Amtrak passenger trains. The little kid keeps asking if he can take one for a ride. Maybe one day.
The Auto-train is one of my favorite trains to see in Ashland. It usually passes through town between 5:15pm and 5:30pm, give or take 10 minutes. Typically we see it right at about 5:25pm. But there are many passenger trains that come through and even stop. Ashland is one of the commuter destinations for those who work in Northern Virginia and DC. And you can be assured they’ll stop during school breaks at the College. Many students of Randolf-Macon take the train home and back again to school.
