Amtrak Tickets In Our Stockings

We awoke Yuletide morning to find Amtrak tickets in our stockings for DC. A day trip up and back to experience a train ride and visit Union Station. It was a cold morning that began with seeing a freight train heading south bound through Ashland.

The little man child kept asking why we were up so early and out to watch the trains. I wish I had gotten the look on his face when the train stopped and we said it’s time to get on. But I missed it! Grr.

Of course once we were on the train there was no pulling him away from the window as he watched the scenery pass by.

We hadn’t planned much for this trip. A visit around the station, lunch and a trip back home again.

We did walk outside and take in the view of Capital Hill and the Library of Congress. But it was a cold day and we didn’t stay outside for long.

We had good timing for our visit. In the center of the station there was a huge model train display of a Norwegian Holiday. There were several trains, polar bears, small villages and various other accessories. But it was a great addition to our visit.

All in all it was a great day and a fun time by all. Especially the little kid who slept his way back home with a very nice lady we meet on the way back. He kept calling her GranMommie and she loved every minute of it.
