The Celtic New Year

It’s the start of the Celtic New Year and honors the year that has passed. It is the time when the veil of forgetfulness is lifted between the physical world and the spiritual world. Where the dead are honored and communication with spirit can take place more than any other time of the year.

An article by the Library of Congress states:
Pagans divided the year by four major holidays. According to their calendar, the year began on a day corresponding to November 1st on our present calendar. The date marked the beginning of winter. Since they were pastoral people, it was a time when cattle and sheep had to be moved to closer pastures and all livestock had to be secured for the winter months. Crops were harvested and stored. The date marked both an ending and a beginning in an eternal cycle.

With the coming of Christianity in the 800s AD, the early Church in England tried to Christianize the old Celtic festivals. Pope Boniface IV designated the 1st of November as “All Saints Day,” honoring saints and martyrs. He also decreed October 31 as “All Hallows Eve”, that eventually became Hallow’een.

Scholars today widely accept that the Pope was attempting to replace the earlier Celtic pagan festival with a church-sanctioned holiday. As this Christian holiday spread, the name evolved as well. Also called All-hallows Eve or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints’ Day).

If you’ve read other articles here on Evil Wordsmith you may know that I’m a licensed Minister and I hold a Doctorate of Divinity in Metaphysical Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Spiritual Counseling. I counsel individuals, families and women of rape and abuse.

Providing help to those in need is a very rewarding job. But sometimes saying no to someone can tear at your heart and your head.

In the past 6 months we have received an increase in requests from people asking for Skype or iPad face to face communications. Some of these people are shut ins due to health issues, tragedy or trauma from violent crimes. Some simply can’t afford to travel to our location.

We have even received requests from some military personnel stationed overseas who simply want someone to talk to and who holds the same spiritual beliefs as they do. These men and women are fighting for our freedoms, and they didn’t ask you what you believe in before they joined up and put their lives in harms way for you.

We’re looking to fill these requests through Skype and iPad Face to Face communication services. But we need your help to make this a reality! Will you give a little to help a lot?

Planet Nibiru Will Hit Earth in 2012. Everyone Duck!

I have been receiving a good deal of emails from people who are seriously worried and scared about the end of the world as foretold by the Mayans and the Mayan Calendar. Probably because of the new movie that is about to be released “2012” from Centropolis Entertainment and starring John Cusack.

There is of course a ton of information about the Mayan’s and their Calendar out there on the web. The trick is trying to separate the BS from some of the good academic research.

Men are from Mars and We Really Don’t Know Where Women Are From

We apparently are born that way too.  A couple days ago I witnessed something bizarre and enlightening.  Last year, the Prince was in kindergarten where he met a cute little princess named Abbie.  He clearly really liked her, she was the first person who’s name he could remember after school.  I met the Princess during Daddy Doughnut Day, when I got to sit in on the class during the morning.  The adjectives “firey Irish redhead” just come to you when you meet her.

When it was time to go, the kids all lined up to go to PE, and the Princess and Prince lined up next to each other.  I was watching them and for a moment I thought they were going to kiss, which was freaky enough, but instead they touched noses.  I also noticed that the Prince’s affinity for girls hasn’t faded.  There were several other girls lined up to get close to him as well.

A little later in the school year the Prince decided he didn’t like Abbie, which didn’t mean that he didn’t like her, he just would rather play with the other boys like all boys do.  I suspect this is some sort of instinctive survival method.  The Princess on the other hand still liked him, which was obvious when we had lunch at the school on his birthday.  She pushed another kid down the bench so she could sit beside me and proceed to give me the entire story of the Prince at school as she saw it.

Now, at the beginning of the year, the Prince was apprehensive about going alone to his class.  The ever protective Queen talked to the school counselor and the counselor arranged for a 5th grade girl to walk him to class.  This girl had a sister in kindergarten, Princess Madison we’ll call her, and the adjectives that describe her are “dignified, demure and reserved.”  From the first day, Princess Madison and the Prince held hands as they walked to their classes.  And most every day that year they did.

At the beginning of this year, the Prince and Princess Madison decided that they would walk together still.  Quote the Prince, “No, I can walk by myself, but I like walking with her.”  So off they go hand in hand every day as last year.

A couple of days ago, as the Prince and Princess Madison headed off to class, they passed by Princess Abbie who was on her way to breakfast.  Abbie turns and watches them walk a little ways and then turns back to me and says, “Why are they holding hands??  Do they like each other?”  She had her hands on her hips and looked pretty mad.

I was dumbfounded and had no idea what to say to her, “I don’t know, they do that every day.”

Her eyes narrowed and she looked like she was doing some kind of scary mental calculation as she turned back toward the cafeteria.  I fear for the Prince and his court.

I said enlightening before, but I doubt it.  Interaction with our women is why I’m sure that if we ever meet an alien intelligence we’ll never figure out their language.  Men can’t figure out women’s language within the species…

I received my Masters!!

Happy Solstice Everyone !

I received notification during the weekend that I had passed my masters exams and that my masters thesis was accepted. It was a major relief getting that letter. The longer the time went by, the more I was getting worried the thesis was going to be rejected. A number of my close friends have told me that I have connected the energy of the Doctorate program to the energy of the new business. And I’m stuck on the business primarily because I’m worried about the studies. So getting that note seriously took some pressure off my mind and shoulders. Whew. So this solstice was a special one for me personally. A few people emailed and asked if they could read the thesis when it was done. I was reluctant to do that at the time. Didn’t want you guys to see how bad it was. Now that it’s been accepted, I have put it on Spring’s Haven. If anyone wants to check it out. It’s kind of a large PDF file, but you’ll find it @ It’s listed as the 3rd item on the left side of the menu.

So with this part of my dream completed, I lit a candle, drew a circle and had my own private moment of thanks and gratitude for the help the GreatSpirits gave me. Course I did ask for some help for the next part – writing the Doctoral Dissertation. First thing to do is decide what topic to cover.

But for now, I am so happy I graduated. I get to put letters by my name now and be Rev.Spring, M.Msc. Woohoo

Update: September 1, 2008 — I received my Doctorate!

After many years of researching, learning and formal education I finally reached a long term goal. My Doctoral Dissertation passed muster and I have received my Doctorate in Divinity in Metaphysical Studies on August 26, 2008.

There’s a measurable sense of pride and satisfaction on not only completing a goal, but of achieving a higher level of education and degree. I’ve worked very hard over the years to continue my education, even though it may have been informal. I truly love researching about beliefs and spirituality on all paths and faiths. But there’s nothing like going through formal education and acquiring recognition of that which you have learned. I’m a doctor now. Rev. SpringWolf, D.D.  Wow.
